Email has been there for past 40 years and email marketing automation has gathered momentum in the past decade and continues to be one of the most effective ways for businesses to spread their message. It’s also one of the easiest ways for startups and established companies identically, so we’re going over few important concepts on how you can get started with this tool called email marketing automation.
Before getting into this video, I would like to share an experience which I went through when I started my sales career. After completing my post graduation, I started my sales career with a space selling company, you can say, like yellow pages. I am talking about the year 2000.
I was given the product training, the pricing chart, basic sales training on how to pitch to a customer and all that stuff.
My job was to go all out, visit the commercial establishments, industrial areas, factories, talk about the benefit of listing and advertising in the directory, fill up the application form, collect the cheque and achieve my sales targets.
It was my first job. I was young, fresh out of college, had lot of dreams to make it big in life like any other fresher. Very aggressive, believed in hard work, slogging etc etc
The first month in my job, I hit my sales target. I was very excited, because I was the only fresher to hit my sales numbers in the first month in that year. My sales manager was very happy and I was given a standing ovation during the monthly sales meeting.
I went on like this. During my third month, I was following up with a lead, very rigorously, because I was very aggressive young and stupid at that point in time. I followed that lead, so rigorously that when I walked in one day he just threw me out of his office. I thought sales is all about hard work, being aggressive, convincing customer, making more number of calls, rigorous follow ups and so on.
This really frustrated me, because inside me I had different values and I struggled with this contradiction for a long time. As time went by I realized that is not what sales is all about.
What I failed to understand was, it is not just hard work, it is just not the number of follow ups, it is just not slogging. There was more to sales.
It is about caring for people, trying to find a way to solve their problem, It is your emotional intelligence, your ability to keep your mind balanced and focused, ability to forgive and love, ability to be good with people, and take a genuine interest in their well-being.
if you are somebody who thinks that sales is a con job, it is about convincing people to buy your products, to brain wash them, if you are someone who hates being pushy, who hates follow up, if you are someone who is struggling to find the thread which connect the dots, you are not alone.
Gone or those days were you have to go door to door, meet people in person, do cold calling, prospecting, making presentations, convincing and all that stuff.
We live now in a digital era, where you can connect with your target audience without you having to move out of your office and meet people in person only if it is required.
